Sources and method

• Registrations: KBA statistics FZ10, table FZ 10.1 (new passenger car registrations by brand and model line), one file per month. Totals and battery-electric cars are the table's overall row; brands are the “brand total” rows.
• Chinese brands are brands headquartered in China: BYD, MG, Leapmotor, Xpeng, GWM (Ora), Geely, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, Omoda, Jaecoo, Deepal, NIO, Maxus, JAC, Dongfeng, Chery. Polestar, Smart, Volvo, Lotus are left out: they belong to Chinese groups but are run from Europe, or, for smart, are a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz.
• KBA lists small brands only once they pass a threshold; until then they sit in “other brands”. The Chinese-brand total is therefore a minimum, and changes are given only where a brand was listed in every month compared.
• KBA revises some files after first publication; figures here are the versions linked on kba.de when retrieved and can differ from the first monthly press release.
• Prices: the German rows of the China vs Europe comparison, with the same rules (lowest trim, gross list price, ECB reference rate).
